Summary: There was two sides to him.
He watches her, eyes cold and empty, but she knows there is something burning behind them. He can pretend all he wants, but she knows he cares about her.
She presses her forehead against the cold glass, watching the snow fall outside. He is like a cigarette, addictive, makes it hard for her to breathe. His words, his touch, his voice. Everything makes her fall deeper in love with him, everything about him brings her to the edge of oblivion. He burns up quickly, forcing himself back into that stupid shell of his.
She tried to change for him, to become more like the girl he had once loved, but nothing made him change.
“You’re quite the actor,” she told him. “You want us all to believe you don’t care for anyone, not anyone still living. I’m willing to forgive your lies, but not your shit. Vincent, you only have now, you have to live now and not worry about the past. You can’t change the past.”
He would tell her that she was a child and didn’t understand. Maybe one day she would, but not now. Not now.
She reminds him, “If I’m a child, that makes you a criminal.”
Begrudgingly he knows she’s right, because what man, monster or not, would let themselves touch a child the way he touches her, let their hands travel across their body, thrust inside of them, pretend for a moment that everything is alright while taking comfort in her flesh.
Loving him is like loving two separate people, because at times he was warm and loving and she knew without question that he cared about her, loved her in his own way, then the next he was pushing her away, trying to remove her from his life. Pushing her away.
She sits with her forehead pressed against the glass, watching his form exit the building and slowly start to disappear into the storm.
She kisses the glass knowing he will come back and the cycle will be repeated all over again.
